Unsubscribe from an email. Unfollow your ex. And when you find the courage, unblock your pores. Though antiperspirants have not been found to directly contribute to certain diseases, we here at Check Your Eco feel most confident and comfortable when using natural ingredients, from essential oils, to arrowroot and shea butter. And it’s also natural and healthy for our bodies to produce sweat. We applied ourselves and found the best of the best, all of which are aluminum-free, paraben-free, and cruelty-free. As always, we sought out businesses that are making an effort toward sustainability and recyclability. Not to mention, we quite like the smell of lavender and cedarwood (but that’s just our two scents). For those reasons and more, give your old deo the axe and check out one of these natural deodorants.

Schmidt’s:

Gland Champion

Schmidt’s natural deodorant boasts “plant and mineral powered formulas that actually work,” and they do. Just ask Justin Bieber. Being the sensitive guy that he is, Biebs recently collaborated with Schmidt’s for the Here + Now sensitive skin stick. Is it too late now to say sorry to planet Earth? We think not. We love the wide variety of scents Schmidt’s has to offer, from Rose + Black Pepper to Water + Wood (we also found that the sensitive skin formulas were a bit less rough and easier to apply, but maybe we just have more in common with Biebs than we thought). Schmidt’s also has their top scents in glass jar form, rewarding you with a freebie for every 5 you recycle (their stick deos are also recyclable).

Meow Meow Tweet:

Deodorant Cream of the Crop

Meow Meow Tweet is a small-batch skincare company that uses organic plant oils, cold-pressed essential oils, and wildcrafted botanicals. We tested their grapefruit deodorant cream, which smells great and is incredibly effective. We were initially concerned that scooping out deodorant every morning would kind of be the pits, but it quickly became part of our everyday routine. It’s literally a hands-on approach to deodorant application that saves a plastic container. And, if you buy their bulk size glass jars, they will cover the shipping cost of returning the jar for reuse.

Native

Native deodorant offers a great variety of aluminum-free deodorants with a smooth, clean, consistent feeling. 10,000+ reviews strong, and we agree- it really works. We particularly liked the Coconut & Vanilla and Charcoal scents. Rumor has it that they just launched a plastic-free version in Coconut & Vanilla, which we’re excited to test out. Native also has options for those with sensitive skin and baking soda allergies. In case your local coffee shop hasn’t already put you over the edge, they even have seasonal scents (Pumpkin Spice Latte, anyone?).

Tom’s of Maine

How could we forget trusty Tom’s of Maine? Not only do they have great scents (we can’t think of a day where we wouldn’t want to smell like Deep Forest), they donate 10% of sales to non-profits that align with their mission. As a certified B Corp, Tom’s supports the use of sustainable growing and harvesting practices and has a comprehensive recycling program for your empty containers. Tom’s deodorants range from stick to roll-on to 24-hour protection, which all yield great results.

Kopari

If you don’t like coconut, skip to the next item. Still here? Okay. You’ll love Kopari deodorant! Sustainably sourced coconut water, high-quality coconut oil, and sage oil make up this gem of a product. As Kopari claims, it’s “Like skincare for your pits.” This deo comes in 4 scents: Gardenia, Beach, Original, and Charcoal. Kopari also offers a points-based reward program if you really want to go coconuts.

Corpus

Odornarily, we wouldn’t spend this much on a deo, but Corpus is definitely worth a try. It’s sort of the Cadillac of the natural deodorant world: Sleek container, sophisticated smell, and lasting results. Each formula is also clear, so no white residue to be worried about here. All ingredients are either plant or mineral derived, and come in unique scent profiles like The Botanist and Santalum- you can even order a mini trio of scents when deciding which will be your new go-to. It’s also important to note that Corpus has a commitment to renewable energy, using mainly solar power to create the product, and hydro-electric power to manufacture the packaging.

Ursa Major

Making us proud of our home state, this Vermont-based company has come out with a fantastic mint and eucalyptus natural deodorant. Extra points for packaging, as they have fit 2.6oz of deodorant into a 3-inch tall container, which is a great way to minimize waste. The trade-off is a smaller surface area, so apply accordingly.
